Golf Cart Rentals:            See Port A in style, as there are many many golf cart 4 & 6 seater rentals around town that range in prices but go for about $120-$160 for a 24 hour period.  Weekly rentals can be negotiated with each company.

Bicycles:                              What better way to see Port Aransas and get the kids out for exercise than by renting bikes and riding around on the new very large sidewalks that have been installed on the main strip. Biking is easy as everything is flat so don’t despair just get out there!

 Go Fishing:

Port A has been long known for its great fishing due to the temperature of the Gulf and the travel of the different fish through these channels. You can fish in so many different ways, offshore, kayak, off the beach, off the pier, at the bay, jetties, etc that we just say get out there and do it.

Jetty Fishing:     All types and kinds of fish can be caught off the jetty. Just be careful of the rocks that love to catch and keep your sinkers and hooks. If you use at least a 15 lb test line, you should be fine.

Bay Fishing:        Many of the sides of the bay around the cause

way and in the park are fun for the kids and prove to be good fishing areas for smaller fish. Best to go when the tide is rising, so pay attention to the time of day.

Pier Fishing:       You can fish off the Horace Caldwell Pier for a fee. It is located South of town and is great for the kids. Lots of fishing from other piers and docks can be found along the causeway between the island and Corpus Christi.

Do it yourself fishing:    Didn’t bring fishing gear, no worries you can rent it from Mustang Rod and Reel, located off the main road on the left, near the entrance to Trout Street Restaurant. You can use any kind of shrimp, dead or live when surf fishing. Dead shrimp can be purchased at most bait shops. Live shrimp can be purchased anywhere you see “Live Shrimp” signs.  If you’re surf fishing, use a light cast out into the surf about 20 yards. These fish are hard to pull in as they bite soft so pay attention else they’ll get your bait. Remember if no one is fishing around you you’re probably not in a good spot or they aren’t biting in the surf.

Offshore Charters:          You can join in on a party charter with others and make friends or hire your own private charter. Private charters normally use boats 30-50 feet in length and range in price from $800 - $2400 per day, depending  on the trip length and how big the boat is, etc.  A few captains with great reputations that take 6 people or less for around $800 is Captain Aaron Chambers and Deep Sea Headquarters 361-749-5597.

Party charters are much more inexpensive and go out most days in the summer. The captain usually takes 10-60 people on a larger commercial vessel. The trips range in time from 6-12 hours with the average from dock to dock being around 8 hours. The longer the trips the deeper the water, usually 50 miles offshore. The further out the bigger the catch normally.

Bay Charters:                     Range from ½ to full days in length. They normally target red fish, trout, flounder and black drum. Prices range from $300 to $600 depending on length and number of people on trip. 361-205-77707

Port “A” Bay Charters:  Let Captain Moon, one of Port A’s best boat captains take you and your family or friends on a personal ½ or full day fishing trip, duck hunt or dolphin tour. An experience fisherman, Captain Moon knows all the best fishing spots.

Party Boats:            If you’re looking for a party on a boat with a large amount of people up to 60 people, the price is $70 per person and you should call Offshore Adventures. They allow guests to bring coolers which can save you a lot of money on a hot 8 hour day. 361-758-6900.

Dolphin Watching: Woody’s and other boat services offer daily cruises around the bay to observe the many dolphins that hang around Port A’s warm water.

Birding Center:            Located just off the cutoff road in Port A is the local birding center that is home to various types of native birds, fun for the kids. There is normally a few alligators around if you’re lucky and they aren’t being shy that day.

Shelling:                          If you time your venture when the tides are strong (look online for the tide charts) you will find tons of shells that are fun for the kids to pick and explore all along the beach. Some of the greatest shelling can be along the Horace Caldwell pier, south of the jetty and town. There is a regular “shelling tour” for exploring the beach and wildlife. Check local paper for times and locations.

Live Music:                 Lots of live music can be found in season at the local taverns and restaurants. The Back Porch always has a new artist playing Thursday – Saturday nights. Check out their blackboard for a list of artists.

Sports Viewing:              My favorite place to view sports when you’re in town whether it’s off season or summer is StingRays, lots of TV’s and great food with exceptionally large chicken wings.
